Chapter 7
Ashley
With my ass aching and the memory of the ginger burned into my brain, I managed to make it through the weekend without doing something that would get me in trouble. It hadnât been hard, but the weekend had been very relaxed, and Dustyâs expectations had been low. The kids loved their new beds and were even excited to start a new school, thanks to Dusty making sure they had new clothes to do it in.
After a breakfast of pancakes for the kids and eggs and toast for us, Dusty grabbed his briefcase. âCâmon, kids, time to load up.â They ran out the door, and he hung back. When they were out of earshot, he leaned over to place a kiss on my cheek and whisper in my ear, âI donât work until nine. Iâll be back after I drop off the kids and give you a list of tasks for the day.â
âYes, Daddy.â
He was out the door before I could ask questions. We had never talked about what the tasks might be, and my stomach bubbled with nerves. Downing my coffee, I started on the dishes. Dusty liked a clean house, and I liked to keep him happy. Not only to stay out of trouble but to show appreciation for all he had done for us.
By the time he got back from dropping the kids off, I had done all the dishes, wiped down the counters and the table, and hopped in the shower.
I had just finished rinsing my hair when the water shut off and Dusty poked his arm through the space between the curtain and the wall to hand me a towel. I stuck my head out of the curtain and gaped at him. âDid you just shut my water off?â
âYes. You knew I wanted to talk to you, and you knew I had to get to work. Taking a shower was very rude. You have all day to do that.â
I knew he had a point, but in some ways Dustyâs dominant nature brought out the worst in me and I wanted to be stubborn. Wrapping the towel around my body, I stepped out with a pout. âYou were taking forever. I cleaned the whole kitchen, and you still werenât back.â
âI saw that. Thank you. Now get dressed and be in my office in five minutes or youâll start the day with a spanking.â
âYeah, yeah, yeah.â
Before he could respond to my sassy response, I scampered past him into my room and locked the door. Of course, five minutes of safety wasnât very long, and though I kind of liked poking him, I knew better than to push any harder this morning. I was in his office right before the five-minute mark.
He was standing in the middle of the room, arms crossed over his chest, shaking his head. A very formidable image.
âYou like to test me, donât you?â
âI was just trying to get a head start on my day.â
âWell, you got it. Now you will have no excuse not to get everything done.
